There is something to be had for everyone on social media, this includes business, artists, celebrities and even just your regular old Joe. Not all social media platforms are for everyone and while I do recommend every business has an account on the big four, there are more than just those.

The key to any use of social media is to be social. It is about interacting with others, as if you were chattng at a party, not just pushing your message/services to everyone.

Top four I am referring to:

  • Twitter
  • Facebook
  • LinkedIn
  • Google+

Get your feet wet in all these areas and then pick two that you have the most fun with and are able to interact with others and concentrate on those. Keep the other two but you can move your concentration to just two.

The reason I say this is that I think you should find another two that are for niche targeting. You have specific public and most likely you will find them in a unique location. For example:

Find people who like to read:
http://www.goodreads.com/
http://www.shelfari.com/

Musicians should have accounts on:
http://www.myspace.com/
http://www.youtube.com/

For each genre, do some searches for your public and business and “social network”.
